What To Expect For Your Cake Smash Session | West Palm Beach Cake Smash Photographer

Cake Smash sessions are one of my favorite kinds of photo shoots! So I thought I'd share some insight on what to expect for your Cake Smash session whether you’re a mom whose baby will soon be one or a client of mine.

Prior to your session we will decide on the theme or color. Once my client picks a theme I search for outfits to coordinate with the theme. Etsy is a great place to find unique clothing that will make this photo shoot stand out. Amazon is another excellent option. These are my goto places for Cake Smash outfits.

Once you arrive to my West Palm Beach studio I let the baby take the lead. I pause to gauge the baby's temperament is the child shy? Does she seem to have “stranger danger”? Are they already moving? and base my strategy on that knowledge. For a baby who exhibit "stranger danger," I will let their parents place them until they become comfortable with my presence. I have props available to keep babies attention and keep them in the shooting space.

Not all babies enjoy cake. Be totally ready for them to detest looking at, touching, or being close to the cake. Usually I start with portraits, then I bring out the cake and photograph the babys reaction. If the baby doesn't like the cake, I'll have a parent take a pinch of cake and give it to their baby. Sometimes a baby will think the cake is fantastic after just one bite, and things progress from there. Some babies quickly jump in, while others avoid it at all costs. Some will touch it and instantly regret doing so. All of these responses are PERFECT and focused on your baby at that precise time.

I hope your child creates a large mess! I like to end all my Cake Smash sessions with a cute milk bath. My baby clients LOVE taking a bath and I usually catch plenty of smiles during this portion of the session. Please prepare a clean outfit for the ride home this session can get messy.
